(Video) - Akkosiwa Afilémi left Togo in search of a better life elsewhere. Her destination: Lebanon, where she was hired as a housekeeper. But her experience quickly turned into a nightmare: wage deductions, mistreatment, and physical violence.
This is unfortunately the daily reality for many Togolese and African domestic workers in Lebanon. They are victims of a mafia-like human trafficking network that lured them with the promise of paid work. Despite numerous complaints, domestic servitude has persisted for several years in Lebanon. More than 200,000 domestic workers are estimated to be working in Lebanon, often in extremely difficult conditions and without any legal protection. In Togo, the situation of domestic workers in Lebanon has sparked outrage. Pastor Edoh Komi of the Martin Luther King Movement is demanding urgent action on behalf of these young women still trapped in the country.
