Seynabou Jame, from Gambia, and Salif Cor, from Senegal, attempted to reach Europe in a pirogue from the Saloum Islands. Their perilous journey ended in Morocco where they were intercepted after a grueling week at sea.

Having set off from the islands of Gambia with the hope of reaching Spain, Seynabou Jame and Salif Cor experienced a sea crossing that will remain etched in their memory.

Seynabou Jame recounts: “We stayed in the water for several days. Our supplies were almost exhausted, there was no running water, and the freezing cold exhausted us.”

For his part, Salif Cor confided: "I am very tired. We thought we were going to arrive in Spain, but the journey stopped in Morocco."

Their experience illustrates the extreme dangers of irregular migration by sea . Exposed to harsh weather, hunger, thirst, and physical exhaustion, many migrants do not survive such journeys. Fortunately, Seynabou and Salif were intercepted and taken into the care of the Moroccan authorities.

These testimonies shed light on the often overlooked reality of young migrants : perilous journeys, thwarted dreams and considerable risks for those seeking to build a better future.

“We want our story to serve as a warning to young people who are considering leaving in this way. It is not an easy journey,” concludes Seynabou Jame, her eyes full of worry but also hope.
