France: Migrants are not the cause of epidemics

Editorial

Oct 2, 2025

Contrary to some common misconceptions, international migration does not promote the spread of epidemics.

This is what a synthesis of research published in the scientific journal The Lancet reveals, which sweeps away the myth of a supposed "bacterial immigration".

According to this study, population movements are not directly linked to the emergence or widespread transmission of infectious diseases. On the contrary, experts emphasize that migrants are often more vulnerable to epidemics due to their precarious living conditions, and call for strengthening prevention efforts and access to healthcare rather than fueling prejudice.
