Departures from the Tunisian coast have dropped by more than 76% in one year, according to the Italian Ministry of the Interior. Sea arrivals of migrants to Italy from Tunisia have sharply decreased in 2025, according to statistics published on Friday, October 3, by the Italian Ministry of the Interior and cited by the Nova agency.

Between January and October 3, 2025, 3,091 migrants departing from the Tunisian coastline landed in Italy, compared with 16,457 over the same period in 2024 — a 76.3% decrease.

Tunisia, which in recent years had been a major departure point toward Europe, is no longer the primary origin of crossings. It has now been overtaken by Libya, from which more than 45,000 migrants departed during the same period.

This shift reflects a significant change in the migration routes of the Central Mediterranean, long dominated by departures from the Tunisian coast.
