Tunisia reiterated on Wednesday its categorical refusal to allow any disguised settlement of irregular migrants on its territory. In a statement issued by its diplomatic mission in Geneva, on the sidelines of the 76th session of the Executive Committee of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Programme , the country also condemned any political or media exploitation of the suffering of migration victims.

Tunis called on donor countries and international partners to intensify their efforts to facilitate the voluntary return of refugees to their countries of origin, and to accelerate resettlement procedures in developed countries with the economic and social means to receive them with dignity.

The Tunisian delegation also stressed the need to defuse crises and conflicts around the world, which are the root causes of forced migration.

She recalled Tunisia's diplomatic commitments in the search for peace, notably through its participation in the African Union Peace and Security Council (2022-2024) and the United Nations Security Council (2020-2021) .

Tunisia thus reaffirms its commitment to a humanist, concerted approach that respects international law , while refusing to be a transit or imposed detention zone for migrants.
